There are eight events at each UIL meet and students must choose in which event(s) they wish to participate. Each event is open to students in every grade level.

Dictionary

Mrs. Chavis ~ Room 215
Tuesdays 7:30 - 8:10 AM Students use dictionaries to answer multiple choice questions about word usage, word origins, and definitions. Students need to attend practices so they become familiar with the dictionary and the types of questions tested.

Ms. Bey ~ Room 111
Mondays 3:30 - 4:10 PM Students write selected spelling words from the UIL spelling list. Participants need to get a spelling list from the coach and attend practices throughout the year.

Maps, Charts,

Ms. Dias- Room A127
Thursdays 7:30 - 8:10 AM Students use a provided atlas to help them answer multiple choice questions dealing with maps, charts and graphs.

Mrs. Bailey~ Room 130
Wednesdays 7:30-8:10 PM Students solve as many of the 50 multiple choice general mathematics questions as they are able in a 30-minute time period. They are allowed to skip around on questions on the test.

Tuesdays 3:30 - 4:10 PM Students solve arithmetic problems using only mental math skills. Students have 10 minutes to complete as many problems as they are able. Students must use blue ink and may not erase, mark-over, scratch out, or show any work. Students must attend practice sessions to learn the necessary number sense "tricks".

Thursdays 3:30 - 4:10 AM Students answer as many of the 50 multiple choice general science questions as they can in the 40 minute time period. Each grade level takes a different science test that is geared for their specific grade level skills.

Fridays 7:30 - 8:10 AM Students use a school issued calculator to solve problems. Necessary calculator skills are taught during practice sessions. The school provides the calculators for practices and meets
